What is a mobile UX audit?

A mobile UX audit is a review of how a website looks and works on a phone. It checks whether text is readable without zooming, buttons are large enough to tap, the layout fits the screen, key information and the call to action appear early enough, and nothing like a pop-up gets in the way.

Pages are usually designed and reviewed on a laptop, then shipped to an audience that mostly visits on phones. Honello captures your page at a phone-sized viewport alongside desktop, gives it its own Mobile score, and lists the mobile-specific fixes separately so they don’t get lost among desktop issues.

What the mobile UX audit checks

The problems that only show up on a small screen, and the ones that hurt most there.

Start for free
  • Tap targets

Buttons and links that are too small or too close together to tap reliably with a thumb.

  • Text size and readability

Body text that needs zooming, long lines, and low-contrast text that’s hard to read outdoors.

  • Layout and overflow

Content that runs off the screen, overlapping elements, and sections that don’t stack cleanly.

  • Call to action placement

Whether the main button and price appear early, or sit several screens below images and copy.

  • Headline fit

A desktop headline that wraps into six lines on a phone and pushes everything else down.

  • Interruptions

Pop-ups, banners, and sticky bars that cover content on a small screen.

Mobile UX Audit FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

How do I check if my website is mobile-friendly?

Open it on a real phone, not a resized browser window, and check that text is readable without zooming, buttons are easy to tap, nothing overflows the screen, and the main call to action appears without much scrolling. For a faster, scored review, paste the URL into Honello for a mobile UX audit.

What’s a good tap target size on mobile?

Apple’s guidelines recommend at least 44 by 44 points for anything a person taps, and Google recommends about 48 by 48 pixels. Smaller targets, or targets packed close together, cause mis-taps and frustration.

Does Google use mobile usability for rankings?

Google indexes and ranks sites using the mobile version of their pages, so content and structure that’s missing or broken on mobile can hurt. A poor mobile experience also raises bounce rates, which costs you conversions whether or not it affects rankings.

Do I need separate scans for desktop and mobile?

No. Every Honello scan reviews both desktop and mobile and gives the mobile experience its own score, for one credit per page.

Can Honello audit my mobile app?

No. Honello audits web pages, including mobile web. Native iOS and Android apps aren’t supported.
