What is the AI Slop Score™?

The AI Slop Score™ is Honello’s measure of how closely a website follows the default patterns AI website builders produce, such as purple-to-blue gradients, frosted-glass panels, emoji icons, grids of identical feature cards, and generic marketing copy. A higher score means the site is more likely to read as generated; a lower score means it looks built on purpose.

AI builders like Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit, and Cursor make it fast to ship a site, but they tend to ship the same one. Visitors notice, and a site that looks templated is harder to trust. The AI Slop Score™ checks nine patterns in your page’s actual HTML and CSS, so the result reflects what’s on the page, not a guess about how it was made.

What the AI Slop Score™ checks

Nine patterns that show up again and again on AI-built sites. One or two is normal; most of them together is a template.

Start for free
  • Typography and palette

The default webfont used for everything, and a color palette that matches common AI-template defaults.

  • Purple and blue gradients

The purple-to-blue hero background that’s become the most recognizable sign of an AI-built SaaS site.

  • Gradient text and glassmorphism

Gradient-clipped headlines and blurred “glass” panels applied by default rather than chosen.

  • Rounded everything

The same large border radius on every card, button, and image, which flattens a page into a template.

  • Marketing copy clichés

Headlines built from “unlock,” “seamless,” “supercharge,” and “revolutionize” that could describe any company.

  • Emoji, card grids, and stock imagery

Emoji used as icons, repeated grids of identical icon cards, and stock images in place of your real product or work.

AI Slop Score™ FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

How do I tell if my website looks AI-generated?

Look for purple-to-blue gradients, glowing blobs, frosted-glass cards, emoji used as icons, three identical feature cards, and headlines that could belong to any company. If most of these show up together, visitors will read the site as a template. The AI Slop Score™ checks nine of these patterns on your live page.

Is a high AI Slop Score™ good or bad?

A high score means your page closely matches common AI-template patterns, which usually hurts trust. A low score means the page looks intentional. The goal is to bring it down by replacing defaults with choices specific to your brand.

Does Google penalize websites that look AI-generated?

Google doesn’t penalize a site because AI helped build it. It focuses on whether content is helpful and original. Generic sites tend to rank poorly because they say nothing specific, not because of how they were made.

Is the AI Slop Score™ included in the free scan?

No. The free scan covers the UX audit, on-page SEO, and AI discoverability. The AI Slop Score™ costs one credit and is included with pay-as-you-go credits and the Pro and Agency plans.

Will the AI Slop Score™ tell me if my site was actually built with AI?

No, and it doesn’t try to. It measures how much the page looks like the usual AI-built output. A hand-coded site can score high, and an AI-built site with real brand choices can score low.
